New Positions and Promotions
Stuart Carter was promoted to sales manager for Barnes & Noble, Barnes & Noble College, BN.com, and Hastings. He continues to manage the Hudson Booksellers and HMS Host airport accounts.
 
Retirements
Don Forbes will retire as director of the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University Bookstores, Collegeville, MN, at the end of May. He has worked in the industry for 32 years, serving as director of the University of North Dakota Bookstore, Grand Forks, and assistant director of the University of Minnesota Bookstore, Minneapolis. He was named director of the CSBSJU stores in 2001. Forbes has also served as president and secretary-treasurer of the Tri-State Bookstore Association.
 
Andrea Heller will retire as manager of the Williston State College Bookstore, Williston, ND, in May. She started at the store as a student employee hired to help with inventory and has served as manager for more than 25 years. The college renamed the store Andrea’s in her honor.
 
Laura Nole is retiring as the manager of the Highline Bookstore, Highline College, Des Moines, WA, in May. She began her career in 1977 as an assistant manager at the Edmonds Community College Bookstore, Lynwood, WA, and became the manager a year later. Nole also managed the stores at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, and the Tacoma store for the University of Washington, before taking over at the Highline Bookstore in 2007. Eric Ho was named interim manager.
 
Wiley President and CEO Stephen Smith will retire on June 1 for medical reasons. Mark Allin, current chief operating officer, will succeed Smith.
 
Condolences
Bob Ware died April 13 at the Cornerstone Hospice House, The Villages, FL. He worked for Nebraska Book Co., Lincoln, for 36 years, retiring in 2002 as regional manager for the Northeast and New England region. Memorial donations in his name can be made to the SPCA Humane Society, P.O. Box 67, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538.
