New Names and Organizational Changes
Barnes & Noble College was selected to operate the Napa Valley College Bookstore, Napa, CA. B&N is expected to take over July 1, pending board approval. The decision to find a new bookstore operator followed the retirement of Manager Sherry Melton earlier this year.
 
Johnston-Malone Bookstore Inc. dba J&M Bookstore, serving Auburn University, Auburn, AL, is changing its name to J&M College Store. Trey Johnston, CEO, told The Auburn Plainsman the change was made to remain competitive in the changing textbook market.
 
Titles McMaster University Bookstore, Hamilton, ON, Canada, has changed its name to McMaster Campus Store and is planning an expansion and renovation of its Gilmour Hall location that is expected to be completed in July. The renovation will provide space for course materials and eliminate the need for its off-campus warehouse.
 
Awards and Achievements
Ingram Content Group Inc. captured Telly Awards for videos produced through its VitalSource technology. The company won for the TeachSource Early Childhood education videos produced for Cengage Learning and for the What Makes a Great Teacher? video for the America Archives Fellows series. Telly Awards honor video and film production, cable TV commercials and programs, and online commercials, video, and film.
 
Pearson Education collected three 2013 CODiE Awards and McGraw-Hill Education received one at the Software and Information Industry Association awards ceremony. Pearson’s GlobalEnglish Suite topped the Best Corporate Learning/Workforce Development Solution category; OpenClass won for Best Postsecondary Course or Learning Management Solution; and Pearson Teacher Compass Suite won for Best Professional Learning Solution for Education. McGraw-Hill Education’s lecture-capture software Tegrity Campus won the Best Postsecondary Enterprise Solution category.
 
Condolences
Warren Elze, 89, retired director, Bucknell University Bookstore, Lewisburg, PA, died at his home in Savannah, GA, on April 29. He joined the Bucknell staff in 1948 after graduation from the university and retired in 1985. Elze was a member of the NACS Board of Trustees from 1968-75 and was NACS president in 1973-74.
