The 2009 survey results are based on data collected in 2008 and represent 1,018 participating college stores. The College Stores Salary & Benefit Survey is underwritten by the NACS Foundation and is conducted by NACS' OnCampus Research with the professional collaboration from Industry Insights, Inc.
Survey Highlights:
- The typical store manager/director is 48 years old with at least 20 years of retail experience.
- Three out of four (75%) managers/directors have earned a bachelor's degree or higher.
- About 15% of responding manager/directors have achieved the Certified Collegiate Retailer (CCR) designation, and 63% had attended a NACS educational program in the past 12 months.
- Median salary increases ranged 1% to 5% from 2007 to 2008.
- Some other notable average salaries for U.S. college store positions include operations manager ($45,532); computer store/department manager ($50,576); merchandise/marketing manager ($43,265); and book department manager ($43,779).
