Determining Textbook Order Quantities
Module Three: Factors in Determining Quantities

Again, it is important to remember that, regardless of the efficiency of textbook management systems, the textbook buyer is the decision-maker. Some of the factors that influence a textbook buyer's decisions regarding order quantities can be categorized as:
  • Title-related
(e.g., the book is a new edition—there are no other copies on campus)
  • Vendor-related
(e.g., the ease of ordering and delivery speed)
  • Instructor-related
    (e.g., instructor or course popularity)
  • Student-related
(e.g., competition—another bookstore available to shop at or a student exchange, whether students feel book is necessary to pass the course)
