Quick Takes
Practical Retail Math

An understanding of basic retail math is crucial to college stores. Any employee involved with freight, retail pricing, buying, payment terms, dating, or cash discounts uses retail math and should have a working knowledge of its principles.

This "Quick Take" covers the basics of practical retail math. It is meant to strengthen industry understanding of retail math, which will in turn, help store staff to better understand how their work impacts the store's bottom line. Concepts and terminology are based on Leo Gafney's "Practical Merchandising Math," a National Retail Federation book published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

For best results, we recommend that you begin by taking the "Check Your Knowledge" pre-assessment to measure your retail math knowledge before beginning the first module. Then, continue through each module in the order that they occur.

After completion of the course, you can measure what you have learned by taking the "Check What You Have Learned" post assessment.
