Torchlight | Spring 2008
Janet Campbell, CCR, MCC Bookstore Director Montcalm Community College, Sidney, MI
Janet attended Montcalm Community College as a nontraditional student and began working at the college as a tutor in 1987. She accepted the position of Director of Montcalm Community College Bookstore in 1999. She is responsible for overseeing the financial and daily functions of the bookstore and all ordering.
Campbell earned her CCR in 2006 and is active with the Michigan Association of College Stores and active with NACS.
Campbell is just one of the NACS Foundation Online Silent Auction bidders who took the time to answer some questions regarding her auction experience. Here is what Janet had to say:
NF: How did you hear about the NACS Foundation Online Silent Auction?
JC: I think I first heard about the silent auction through The College Store magazine, although I may have first received an e-mail from NACS regarding this opportunity.
NF: Did you find the auction convenient for your online bidding 24/7?
JC: The 24/7 option was one of the great conveniences this offered. I could log in anytime and sort through the list of items available along with my list of bid items.
NF: What items do you look to purchase from the auction?
JC: I have bid on mostly supply and clothing items, although I did look through for membership discounts and CAMEX registrations.
NF: With all your online bids you have placed, what is your #1 item you are hoping to win?
JC: Hmmm, I don't know if I want to give that away! The CAMEX registration at a discount would be wonderful.
NF: Is the timeframe to bid adequate?
JC: It is great that we have had the opportunity to bid before, during, and after CAMEX. The extended time after CAMEX allowed me to get settled back into my office routine and still have time to follow up on my bids.
NF: Will you participate in online bidding next year?
JC: Absolutely! This process is not only an easy way to attempt to get great discounted merchandise and services, but it is also fun. Of course, we cannot forget the fact that we are also benefiting the NACS Foundation.
NF: Do you find the online auction easier than the bid board system?
JC: My time is packed with learning and networking while I am at CAMEX. I can use this service during spare moments at my office, waiting at the airport, or at my CAMEX hotel room.
NF: Janet, thank you so much for being our first "One Minute With." Do you have any final words to add about your auction experience?
JC: The NACS Foundation is a wonderful organization that provides many opportunities to help college industry folks succeed. The NACS Foundation Online Silent Auction provided me a relaxing and fun opportunity to bid on and hopefully win great supplies and services for our store and staff at a discount. The awesome bonus to this process is that the proceeds are used to fund trade research and educational programming to the NACS membership. So even if I don't win my bid items, I, along with all NACS members still win through the offerings of this great organization.
